notes

A beautiful brick building built in 1860 by the Hicksites, a group of Quakers who separated from the main congregation to pursue more traditional forms of worship. The two groups reconciled in 1958, resulting in the closing of the meetinghouse on Gramercy Park (now the  Brotherhood Synagogue).
